Who was here all 8 years?
Posted Monday, June 22, 2009 08:29 PM

Most people think I was at St. Cecilia for all 8 years because they remember me in first and second grade, and in 8th grade.  But actually, we moved to St. Pius X Parish for 2 years, and I attended St. Pius X in second and third grades.  St. Cecilia's nuns were MUCH nicer than St. Pius nuns!  We moved back to Oak Cliff in time for fifth thru 8th grades, so I got to graduate with the same kids I started school with.  I don't remember Jerry Smith in first grade, but I do remember John Thompson.  His legs were already so long that he couldn't get jeans to fit both his waist and his inseam.  I myself have always had the opposite problem.

was at St. Cecilia's in the first grade--Sister Bernadine's class--loved her. I wasn't there in 2nd grade, but I returned for 3rd grade and the first semester of 4th (moved to Denver) I returned the beginning of fith grade and was there for the duration.

I was an 8 year student at St. C.  I remember all my teachers clearly except for 4th grade.

1st-Mrs. Barnett, 2nd-Mrs. Butler, 3rd-Sister Florence, 4th-?(Sister Mary Aquinas??), 5th-Sister Ann,  6th-Mrs. Thompson,  7th-Sister Mary Theresa, 8th-Sister Benita Francis.

Does anyone remember who our 4th grade teachers were??  I do know I had the nun!  lol

Sister Mary Aquinas sounds right although we were not in the same classes together.  Caren Conoly and I made the mistake of walking in the door hand-in-hand for the first grade.  The sisters couldn't have any of that so I got sent to one class and Caren to the other.

There was a Sister Mary Charles that could find my head with her clicker without turning to look.

I too enjoyed the reunion and hope we can do it again soon.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous!

John, Sister Mary Charles was our 6th grade teacher.  She taught Religion to Elaine's class and Mrs. Thompson taught us English.  Elaine, I wasn't there is 4th grade, but there was a Mrs. Klaczak or Klazak at one time.  Still, I don't know who "your" nun would have been.

The fourth grade....hmmm. I have TRIED to blot it out of my memory--as you, Elaine, have successfully done, but to no avail. It was the only year of misery at St.Cecilia'a for me...Mrs.Mueller. "if you can't say something nice...", as my mother would direct, so I shall say no more. I remember lots of yelling and numerous folks kneeling in the corner for long periods of time...

Do remember Fr. Benedict, a Cistercian and newly arrived refugee, a red-head, as well :) What I remember was his response to one of the Sister's assuring him that the Sisters were praying for the safety of his family (he had escaped from the Communist takeover and his family was facing imprisonment)...he requested that they pray INSTEAD that they not HATE their captors---I have never forgotten that remark and the depth of humanity it expressed. Guess I thought this must be what living out my faith might just be all about!

God rest Mrs. Mueller and Fr.Benedict!
